RoHS Compliance
The Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) Directive (2011/65/EU) was transposed into UK law on 2 January 2013.
The National Measurement Office (NMO) is the UK market surveillance authority responsible for enforcing the RoHS regulations within the UK.
These regulations implement the RoHS directive which bans the placing on the EU market of new EEE containing more than the agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) flame retardants.
Manufacturers, authorised representatives, importers and distributors need to understand the requirements placed on them to ensure compliance.
